Education and Training Section
The Section on Education and Training (SET) is dedicated to advancing the competencies, tools, and knowledge that both emerging and established library and information professionals need to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving information landscape. Our section supports professionals in developing the skills required to assume leadership roles and become advocates and change-makers who enrich and empower the diverse communities they serve.
We engage a wide range of stakeholders, including educators, practitioners, and researchers, to explore and implement sustainable approaches for library community development and engagement. One example of this collaborative work is the Building Strong Library and Information Science Education (BSLISE) working group, a joint initiative of SET and the Library Theory and Research (LIBTHEORY) Sections. This working group focuses on strengthening LIS education worldwide, particularly through shared research, standards, and capacity-building efforts.
Recognizing that education and training are essential across all IFLA Professional Units, SET continues to build partnerships with other IFLA Sections and international and regional organizations that share common goals. Through these collaborations, we strive to strengthen global capacity in library and information science education and practice.
