IFLA Strategy 2024-2029Based on extensive communication with IFLA’s member and volunteer community, we’re proud to launch our Strategy for 2024-2029, which will take us through our centenary and almost to the end of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda.

The Strategy provides a structure and reference for the work of IFLA, including of course its roughly 60 volunteer groups. As our survey work for its preparation has underlined, it can also be a tool and stimulus for IFLA’s members in preparing their own plans.

Based on this same engagement with members and volunteers, we also identified key priorities for the new Strategy which are reflected in the final text.

It leads with a new and clearer vision, which underlines strongly the role we see libraries as having in the world:

Sustainable futures for all through knowledge and information

Taking this as the goal, it then tells the story of how the global library field as a whole makes this happen, and in turn how IFLA as the international organisation for libraries can enable and animate the field.

Impact areas

Finally, it is simpler, with three impact areas where we focus our work in order to make a difference. These are:

Impact area 1: Libraries are connected and energised through vibrant, global professional communities

Impact area 2: Libraries are recognised, represented and valued as partners

Impact area 3: Libraries are enabled to deliver meaningful change at all levels

This work is underpinned by our enabler:

Future-Proofing IFLA: Ensuring IFLA’s governance, projects, and partnerships are effective, transparent, and innovative.

We’re excited to be launching the Strategy at the Information Futures Summit in Brisbane, where it will feed into discussions about how we approach the future of libraries. We also look forward to sharing further materials about the Strategy and how to use it in the coming weeks, and welcome your feedback!
