The Section on Education and Training is your Right Choice!
06 February 2025
If you believe that strong and future-focused Library & Information Science (LIS) education is critical to advancing libraries and librarianship, then the Section on Education and Training (SET) is the place where you should be. This prominent IFLA unit, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024, serves library and information professionals, teaching staff, practitioners and managers with teaching responsibilities. We are focused on the new competencies and tools professional and emerging librarians need in this challenging and rapidly changing information age.
We are looking for NINE new standing committee members, who are ready to work on the many projects and programs planned in the upcoming years.
Key projects include the following:
- Working with the “Building Strong Library and Information Science Education Working Group (BSLISE)” to advance and promote the IFLA Guidelines for Professional Library and Information Science (LIS) Education Programmes (2022) and the LIS Education Map & Directory.
- Supporting A Webinar Series for LIS Students, a joint project of IFLA Division C units. This series aims to involve Library and Information Science (LIS) students, as future librarians, in an international dialogue with the IFLA community about the future of LIS.
- Engaging with the “Global Knowledge Management Education and Training” project, an initiative being carried out in close partnership with IFLA’s Knowledge Management Section, to review the landscape of KM education and training around the world.
We are interested in people who could bring new ideas, perspectives or partnership opportunities to these important initiatives.
