The IFLA New Professionals Special Interest Group (NPSIG) is dedicated to empowering early-career librarians and information professionals by creating opportunities for learning, networking, and global collaboration.

Among NPSIG’s key initiatives is IFLACamp—an innovative and informal satellite event that brings together new professionals from around the world to share experiences, spark dialogue, and explore emerging trends in the field of librarianship. Since its inception, IFLACamp has become a vibrant platform for creativity, professional growth, and intercultural exchange within the global library community.

Distinguished by its inclusive and participatory format, IFLACamp encourages peer learning and open discussion through interactive sessions such as group activities, skill-building workshops, and cultural exchanges. It fosters a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where new voices are celebrated and ideas are freely shared. By supporting these connections, NPSIG strengthens the international network of emerging library leaders and promotes innovative thinking across borders. This year, IFLACamp #10 will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan on 15-16 August 2025—just ahead of the 2025 IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC). It offers the perfect launch to a week of inspiration and global engagement.

In addition to organising IFLACamp, NPSIG is actively involved in a variety of dynamic activities during WLIC itself. One highlight is the return of the Library Flashmob—a lively, public celebration of reading and libraries that brings energy and visibility to the profession in creative ways. NPSIG is also organizing one World Café about AI with the IFLA Artificial Intelligence (AI) SIG and two workshops focused on Artificial Intelligence. These sessions will explore the evolving role of AI, its practical applications, and the ethical challenges it presents—providing hands-on learning and space for critical dialogue. NPSIG is also collaborating with the Library Services to Multicultural Populations Section to cohost a cultural networking café event during WLIC.

Together, these activities reflect NPSIG’s mission to create a global, supportive, and forward-looking community for new professionals—amplifying their voices and empowering them to shape the future of libraries.
