Standing up and speaking out: calling for responses to our 2025 Regional Advocacy Priorities Survey
15 May 2025
Help inform and shape IFLA’s advocacy work in the coming years, as well as contributing to a snapshot of the field and its priorities to support the work of colleagues globally. Deadline: 9 June.
Advocacy is essential, both to defend libraries, their staff, and their values from attacks, and to promote a vision of sustainable future for all through knowledge and information.
As institutions and individuals embedded in the communities we serve, we have a critical dependence on the attitudes and decisions taken in our wider environment. Through our advocacy work, we shape these, allowing us in turn to provide better service and support.
Advocacy is therefore a significant part of IFLA’s work at all levels, in particular of our regional structures, established in 2021 and now looking towards their third term.
Third in the series
To support in action planning for our incoming Regional Division Committees – as well as the Headquarters team that supports them and our Federation as a whole – we are happy to be running our 3rd Regional Advocacy Priorities Survey, under the leadership of IFLA’s Regional Council.
This aims to develop a snapshot of where active library associations, institutions and individuals are prioritising efforts to shape attitudes and achieve change in our wider environment.
This year’s survey follows a very similar methodology to the two previous editions (2021, 2023), looking to understand focus on different library types, issues and wider concerns. It also explores engagement in the different aspects of advocacy.
A response to intensifying challenges
A new component will be questions that take a step back, and seek views on how supportive the environment for libraries today is, and in particular the strength of relationships with key players.
As with our previous editions, we will be publishing (anonymised) results in order to maximise value for the field. In our reporting, we will also aim to draw insights to inform our responses to the intensifying challenge that libraries in many countries are facing.
At the end of the survey, you can enter our raffle for a chance to win exciting prizes — you could walk away with the IFLA Facilitation Deck, designed to spark ideas and strengthen library skills, or a set of coasters perfect for your cup of tea or coffee!
The survey is open for all, and is in all IFLA official languages. Your answers are welcome by 9 June.
