Release of ‘IFLA Entry Point to Libraries and AI’ document
10 June 2025
The following weeks will be full of exciting AI related events including the Internet Governance Forum that will take place in Norway this year, the Global Forum on the Ethics of AI (Bangkok), AI for Good (Geneva) and many more. In view of this, IFLA is pleased to share this document as a follow up process for the IFLA Internet Manifesto that was published last year in August. This document is the first of a series of annexes that will be released to support the library community on digital related themes.
The ‘IFLA Entry Point to Libraries and AI’ is intended to be a tool to support librarians in the assessment of ethical AI use. The document provides librarians with a list of key considerations and scenarios to evaluate and discuss the benefits and risks of adopting AI use within library premises.
While it is not designed to serve as a standalone decision-making instrument, we encourage individuals and organizations to use it to engage in broader discussions with colleagues, peer-organizations and other libraries.
Via the document, IFLA also highlights how library values and ethics are highly relevant to the responsible use of AI in society.

We wish you and your community fruitful conversations! 🎉
