The French-speaking African countries Network for the Documentation and the Archives of Parliaments
Parliaments in French-speaking African countries face major challenges in managing and preserving their archives, which are essential for transparency and democratic accountability. The African Network for Documentation and Archives of Parliaments is an initiative aiming to strengthen cooperation and improve documentation practices, documentation and archives professionals in the region. The specific goals of the Network include:
- Strengthening the capacities of parliamentary documentation and archives professionals
- Promoting the exchange of best practices and the harmonization of document management standards
- Ensuring the preservation and accessibility of parliamentary documentary heritage.
The inaugural seminar was organized in Dakar, from 12 to 14 June 202, and the IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section was invited to be part of the event. The Section’s Chair Carolyne Ménard addressed the participants at the beginning of the event, with a speech on the importance of collaboration, which strengthens democratic institutions and aligns with IFLAPARL’s global mission. IFLAPARL encourages active participation, knowledge-sharing and partnerships to advance information services in parliaments, and it looks forward to forming working relationship with institutions like RADAR.
