Loida Garcia-Febo re-elected Chair, IFLA Management of Library Associations Section 2025-2027

Loida Garcia-Febo was re-elected Chair of the IFLA Management of Library Associations Section (MLAS) for the 2025–2027 term. As such, she will serve on the IFLA Governing Board.
Loida Garcia‑Febo is a Puerto Rican American librarian, educator, and international consultant recognized for her influence in driving global and national change in the areas of wellness, technology, and sustainability. She served as President of the American Library Association (ALA) during the 2018–2019 term, spearheading the impactful “Libraries = Strong Communities” advocacy initiative. Prior to that, she held key roles within the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA), serving on its Governing Board from 2013 to 2017 and co-founding the IFLA New Professionals Special Interest Group. She also led REFORMA—the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking—serving as its president from 2009 to 2010. Garcia-Febo has worked in academic, public, school, and special libraries. She holds a BA in Business and an MLS, both from the University of Puerto Rico.
Garcia‑Febo’s far-reaching impact was recognized with the prestigious ALA Medal of Excellence for her outstanding and high-level creative leadership. Her career spans over two decades and includes service on the Freedom to Read Foundation Board, leadership in wellness initiatives (including as the first Health & Wellness Advisor for San José State University’s School of Information), and advocacy at the United Nations on the Sustainable Development Goals with IFLA and ALA. She is the first Latina and ALA Past President to Chair IFLA MLAS.
