The IFLA Regional Division Committee for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA RDC) is seeking passionate and committed Library and information professionals to join us as co-opted members for the term 2025-2027.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to IFLA’s strategic goals, strengthen the library field across the MENA region, and represent the diverse voices and needs of our professional community.

About the IFLA MENA RDC:

The MENA RDC works to support IFLA’s presence and impact in the region. We foster collaboration, advocate for libraries, and implement programs that address key regional priorities such as access to information, copyright reform, digital preservation, professional development, and the role of libraries in sustainable development.

The Role of a Co-opted Member:

Co-opted members are appointed to bring specific expertise, geographic representation, or perspectives that are currently underrepresented in the Committee. As a co-opted member, you will:

• Actively participate in the development and implementation of the MENA RDC’s Action Plan.
• Contribute professional expertise on key regional issues (e.g., copyright, open access, AI knowledge, library services for refugees, etc.).
• Help to identify emerging trends and challenges facing libraries in the MENA region.
• Support the organization of regional events, webinars, and advocacy campaigns.
• Serve as a liaison between the RDC and library associations/institutions in your country or area of specialization.
• Attend virtual committee meetings (typically monthly) and contribute to ongoing online discussions.

Co-opted candidates are treated as full members of the Regional Division Committee for the full term. They are then eligible to stand for one further term on the Committee if not otherwise discounted.

We Are Looking for Candidates Who:

• Are residing and working in the MENA region.
• Are preferably a member of IFLA, either through a personal affiliation or through their institution’s or association’s membership.
• Possess a strong professional background in libraries, archives, or a related information field.
• Have expertise in one or more areas of strategic importance to the region, such as:
• Advocacy and Public Policy
• Copyright and Intellectual Property
• Digital Libraries and Technology
• Library Services to Multicultural and Refugee Communities
• Preservation and Conservation
• Library Management and Leadership
• Open Science and Scholarly Communication
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills in either Arabic or English (proficiency in both is a strong asset).
  • Are committed to collaborating effectively in a multicultural, volunteer-based environment.
  • Can dedicate approximately 5-8 hours per month to RDC activities.

2. A Statement of Motivation (max. 300 words) outlining:

• Your reasons for applying.
• The specific skills, experience, and perspective you would bring to the MENA RDC.
• Your ideas for addressing one key challenge or opportunity facing libraries in the MENA region.

• دعم تنظيم الأحداث والفعاليات الإقليمية والندوات عبر الإنترنت وحملات المناصرة.

وسيعامل المرشحون المختارون كأعضاء كاملين العضوية في اللجنة الشعبة الإقليمية لكامل المدة. وعندئذ يكونون مؤهلين للترشح لفترة أخرى في اللجنة إذا لم يتوقف عملهم في اللجنة بطريقة أخرى.

نحن نبحث عن المرشحين الذين:

• يقيمون ويعملون في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا.

• يفضل أن يكونوا أعضاء في الافلا، إما من خلال العضوية الشخصية أو من خلال عضوية مؤسستهم.

• امتلاك خلفية مهنية قوية في المكتبات أو الأرشيفات أو مجال المعلومات ذي الصلة.

• لديهم خبرة في مجال أو أكثر من المجالات ذات الأهمية الاستراتيجية للمنطقة، مثل:

• المناصرة والسياسة العامة

• حقوق الطبع والنشر والملكية الفكرية

• المكتبات الرقمية والتكنولوجيا

• خدمات المكتبة للمجتمعات متعددة الثقافات واللاجئين

• الحفظ والترميم

• إدارة المكتبات وقيادتها

• العلوم المفتوحة والتواصل العلمي

○ إظهار مهارات اتصال ممتازة باللغتين العربية أو الإنجليزية (الكفاءة في كليهما هي ميزة قوية).

○ ملتزمون بالتعاون الفعال في بيئة متعددة الثقافات وقائمة على العمل التطوعي.

○ يمكن تخصيص ما يقرب من 5-8 ساعات شهريا لأنشطة اللجنة.
