The ISBD RG is looking to add members as part of IFLA’s co-opting process and would like to receive expressions of interest.

The ISBD RG oversees the revision, management and promotion of IFLA’s International Standard Bibliographic Description, known as the ISBD, and provides a coordinating body to which any ISBD-related issues can be directed.

The ISBD is one of the standards in an interconnected “eco-system” of IFLA metadata standards.

The IFLA standards “eco-system” changed when IFLAs conceptual models were revised and consolidated into a new framework called IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM) in 2017. The flow-on effect of this was a need to revise the ISBD.

The ISBD RG has been working on this revision and alignment with the LRM since 2018 and have produced a partial implementation: the ISBD for Manifestation. The work aligning the ISBD with all the other LRM entities have begun this year, with the goal to create a full implementation of the LRM, a multiple-entity ISBD designed for describing entities, Semantic Web technologies and Linked open Data.

If you are interested in joining the ISBD Review Group in this exiting time of evolving metadata standards, please submit an expression of interest via the following link:
