IFLA’s Governing Board (GB) is responsible for the management of the Federation, as set out in IFLA’s Statutes.

The IFLA GB consists of eleven members – three elected officers (President, President-elect, and Treasurer), three ex officio members (Chair of the Professional Council, Regional Council, and Management of Library Associations Sections), and five elected members-at-large. The Secretary General acts as Secretary of the Governing Board.

The GB meets at least three times a year, and is advised by the Professional Council, the Regional Council, and five Advisory Committees.

Governing Board meetings are open to all IFLA Members and Affiliates in good standing and their representatives.

In their discussions, the following topics are on the agenda:

  • The Board will review progress on the 2024 audit, the draft 2024 Financial Statement and receive an update on the Key Performance Indicators for the Federation.
  • Preparations for this year’s World Library and Information Congress, as well as work to select hosts for 2026 and 2027.
  • Progress and processes around the Knowledge Rights 21 Programme, which IFLA administers alongside our partners LIBER and SPARC Europe.
  • The proposal to convert the LGBTQ Users’ Special Interest Group into an IFLA Section.
  • IFLA’s election process, including data around levels of engagement in nominations and voting, as well as on the regional diversity of our volunteer groups in 2025-2027.
  • Updates on progress in implementing our Code of Conduct for volunteers, governance structure health check and WLIC review.

A summary of the meeting will be shared in the President’s Message for June next week, sent directly to our members and volunteers.
