This presentation offers an in-depth look at creating the new Emerson History & Genealogy Center. We’ll cover the planning, logistics, and challenges involved in relocating and organizing the Center’s extensive collections. The discussion will also highlight the introduction of new services for the public, such as enhanced genealogy tools and a memory lab, as well as the process of training staff to support these offerings. Gain insight into the work behind establishing this valuable resource for the community.
Brent Trout is the manager of the Emerson History & Genealogy Center at St. Louis County Library Clark Family Branch. With a background in museums, Brent previously served as the executive director of museums in Oklahoma and Florida in the United States. His interest in genealogy developed while in Oklahoma, where he assisted several individuals with tribal enrollment. A dedicated public servant for most of his career, Brent has spent several years working in the professional genealogy field within libraries. He is passionate about helping others trace their family history and connections. In addition to his work with genealogy, Brent is also deeply committed to preservation efforts, having advocated for the library to open spaces for digitizing and preserving family memories for future generations.
