As 11 November 2025 marks 107 years since the end of the Great War, it is important to remember the major impact this historical event had on the lives of ordinary people around the world regardless of which side of the barricade they were on. At a time when we are witnessing many armed conflicts all over the world, Europeana 1914-1918 digital archive provides valuable documentary resources that help people today better understand the dramas and sufferings endured by the people during the World War I. It is about a lived history, where scientific information goes hand-in-hand with the feeling; the sense with the sensibility and emotion. Every piece of historical information is filtered by the personal experience of the storyteller, so that the stories gathered in Europeana 1914-1918 archive have a huge impact on the users.
Gathering oral stories and documents from local communities is extremely important for librarians, and Europeana 1914-1918 offers the best example on how to do it with maximum impact.
