Be a part of it! IFLA nominations and elections 2025
26 September 2024
It’s coming. A chance to boost your career and help shape the future of global librarianship!
Every two years, IFLA holds its nominations and elections process, providing new opportunities to engage and contribute. In 2025, we invite you to join us – with openings across 50+ committees and groups, including the election of a new Governing Board.
IFLA’s volunteer-led committees are the spaces and structures where international librarianship comes to life. Experience are exchanged, ideas explored, and solutions developed together within these groups and volunteers hold the unique power to find solutions to the common challenges faced by libraries and other information organisations. Volunteering with IFLA can help accelerate and spread innovation far beyond our committees and groups.
An exciting time to lead
Volunteers starting their roles in August 2025 face an exciting opportunity: implementing our new Strategy and guiding IFLA into its centenary in 2027. This is a pivotal moment in our history, and by volunteering you can be at the forefront of driving the future of global librarianship!
To make this process even more accessible, this year we’re introducing a pre-nominations phase, ensuring that great candidates who may not have a nominator can still be part of this. This process begins on 14 October; look out for more details in the coming weeks.
Volunteering benefits everyone
IFLA volunteer committees are at the heart of international librarianship.
By volunteering, you unlock the unique power of collaboration – stronger connection to global conversations, a network of peers who share ideas and inspiration, and the opportunity to highlight national and local experience on the world stage.
No matter where you are in your career – whether you’re a new professional, a seasoned librarian, or anywhere in between – and regardless of where you are based, we believe everyone with a passion for libraries, knowledge sharing and community impact belongs in an IFLA role.
Engagement in IFLA means a stronger connection to global conversations, a network of peers who can share ideas and inspiration, and the opportunity to highlight national and local experience on the world stage.
So this is an opportunity to step up, and to be rewarded. By nominating a colleague or yourself, you create pathways for personal and professional growth, while bringing new energy, ideas, and leadership to the global library community, as well as your home institution and library association. We count on you!
Looking ahead
We can’t wait to share more details about the exciting nominations and elections process ahead. As you start considering who to nominate or which leadership roles you’ll step up for, make sure to mark these key dates in your calendar – this is your chance to help shape the future of global librarianship!
