About the IFLA PressReader International Marketing Award

2025 Call: IFLA International Marketing Awards

With the recent IFLA PressReader International Marketing Award 2024 still fresh in our minds and this year’s winners vivid in memory, it’s time to look forward and prepare for the 2025 submissions. The call for entries is open, “Call: 2025 IFLA PressReader International Marketing Award – IFLA” so be sure to submit your best, most innovative, and creative campaigns to compete for the PressReader Award.

In this blog, we reflect for inspiration on the recent awards, as well as highlighting some submissions from previous years. Amidst challenges such as misinformation and AI-generated content, libraries have become essential for providing reliable information and fostering community engagement. We have no doubt, Libraries can play a significant role in leveraging the opportunities outlined in the IFLA Trend Report, but people must be aware of the services we provide and think about us at relevant moments.

People generally understand the library’s societal value, but this often doesn’t translate into a perceived personal benefit. Across various places, there has been a clear need to reintroduce people to the extensive services libraries offer and the opportunities these provide. Effective, innovative marketing campaigns are a great way to do this.

Last year’s winner, Auckland Council Libraries (New Zealand), understood this well with their “100 Reasons to Have a Library Card” campaign, which lightly and effectively showcased the benefits of having a library card. Similarly, Chattanooga Public Library (USA) took third place the previous year with their awareness campaign, “Here We Grow!” which highlighted the importance of communicating the wide range of services offered by a modern public library. You can find all the 2024 winners at IFLA PressReader International Marketing Award Winners 2024 – IFLA

But also in the years before last we can find inspirational campaigns that highlight the importance of building an understanding of all possibilities library services can offer people. For example, the winner of 2022; Yarra Libraries engaged new users with “We’re Ready for the Next Chapter. Help Us Write It,” effectively using a blend of digital, print, and non-traditional outreach to co-create plans with the community for the coming years. Find more about this campaign. Going back even further down memory lane we see, LGMA / Libraries Ireland (Ireland) secured third place with “Your Library – Take a Closer Look,” encouraging the public to explore modern, innovative library services.

In short, many of our challenges are universal, which makes the IFLA PressReader International Marketing Award so unique. It offers insight into each other’s practices, allowing us to celebrate successes, learn from each other, and be inspired by creative, innovative ideas. If you have a campaign that effectively raised awareness of your library’s wide offerings in 2024, or another initiative that could inspire fellow librarians, be sure to submit it.
