GOVLIB March 2026 meeting: key updates and priorities
14 March 2026
The section met online to take stock of its current workload and set the tone for the months ahead. With several long‑term projects now in motion, the focus was on coordination, momentum and ensuring every strand has a clear path forward.
The headline activity is the overhaul of the Guidelines for Libraries of Government Departments (2008), a substantial update the group aims to deliver in time for IFLA’s centenary. A core team will shape the revised structure, outline responsibilities and explore potential funding to support the work.
Alongside this, work continues on the GOVLIB Communication Strategy for 2025–29. The first newsletter has landed well, and attention is now shifting to strengthening information flow across the section and preparing the next edition, which will spotlight interesting initiatives from government libraries around the world.
Meanwhile, the historical project is gathering pace, tracing the section’s development from its early days as “Administrative Libraries” through to the present.
Other ongoing strands include the section’s formal review (now submitted and awaiting feedback), a review of Standing Committee participation to ensure smoother operations, and early planning for the Division B session at WLIC 2026 in Busan.
With each piece now in the hands of dedicated sub‑groups, the committee will keep the work moving through steady communication on Basecamp and reconvene as needed to maintain momentum.
