IFLA calls for candidates for the position of Chair of the Advisory Committee on Standards
27 August 2025
The position of Chair of the Advisory Committee on Standards for the period 2025-2027 has not yet been filled. The IFLA Governing Board is seeking to appoint a candidate to fill this role.
IFLA’s Advisory Committee on Standards has a key role within IFLA. As underlined on its pages on the IFLA website, the committee coordinates the Federation’s work to develop and maintain professional standards and guidelines for information professionals across the globe, and provides advice to the Governing Board.
As the central hub for IFLA’s work on technical standards and professional practice guidelines, it manages their development, revision, and publication, working closely with IFLA’s Sections and other Committees.
The Committee also aims to raise the visibility of IFLA standards within and beyond IFLA’s membership by providing document maintenance, storage and open access. It liaises with external standards-issuing bodies such as ISO, CEN and the ISBN International Board.
The role of the Chair is to lead this work, and so contribute to IFLA’s wider missions in this space.
A call for candidates
The Committee is therefore looking for 1 chair, who will be appointed by the Governing Board. Candidates should be able to fulfil the expectations of the Chair as set out in our Elections Guide (see p18) in addition to having a background, experience or expertise in the area of metadata and/or Standards. We welcome leaders who meet these criteria, from all geographies.
For nominations to be valid, they will require:
- A completed nominee form, to be filled out by the candidate.
- A completed nominator form. In line with our Rules of Procedure, only National and International Association Members can nominate for the position of Chair of an Advisory Committee.
Both forms – nominee and nominator – are necessary by 26 September 2025, 15:00 UTC (see what time this is for you) in order for a candidate to be taken into consideration by the Governing Board.
After the closing of the nominations period, the Governing Board will take a decision, and all eligible candidates will be informed of the results.
