IFLA Newsletter, December 2025: Showcasing our year
22 December 2025

The message below accompanies the December 2025 edition of the IFLA Newsletter.
As we reach the end of the year, December is not only a time to wrap things up but also to reflect on what we’ve achieved and what lies ahead. For IFLA, 2025 has been a year of momentum—building on the foundations laid in 2024 and accelerating the implementation of our 2024–2029 Strategy, with a strong focus on outcomes and impact.
We’ve taken important steps to set ourselves up for success. Through our Planning for Impact training, we worked closely with the leaders of our volunteer groups to strengthen their capacity for strategic planning and delivered impact training for librarians across all regions. These efforts are helping to embed a culture of monitoring, evaluation, and learning across our field, ensuring libraries can clearly demonstrate the value they bring to their communities.
We also completed our baseline study, now available in the repository under the title Starting Point. This report establishes a benchmark for measuring progress toward our strategic outcomes, providing a clear picture of where we stand and guiding our efforts as we move forward. Indeed, 2025 has been about laying the groundwork for everything to come in the next two years—especially as we approach #IFLA100.
Meanwhile, our Trend Report continues to evolve as a vital tool for strategic success. A survey gathering ideas drew on insights from our members and volunteers to explore how specific trends shape progress across our strategy’s pillars. More than just a snapshot, the report offers practical guidance for integrating trends into planning—precisely the kind of forward-looking thinking that will help us seize opportunities and guide libraries into the future.
As we look to 2026, the plans we’ve made will turn into action. The coming year promises innovation, collaboration, and impact on a global scale. Thank you for being part of this journey—together, we are shaping a stronger future for libraries and the communities they serve.
