IFLA Newsletter, November 2024: Heritage
28 November 2024

Can we see the future of cultural heritage?
Unfortunately, no, we cannot see the future, but we can plan for it.
IFLA launched our 2024 Trend Report at the IIFS in September, and with it, we launched a global conversation on the future of the field. This is an opportunity to explore how these trends affect how we safeguard cultural heritage—and also how we provide access to it—and what can this mean for society.
Therefore, in this month’s newsletter, we discuss heritage – especially in the context of our rapidly changing world. Start here by exploring what the 2024 Trend Report might mean for cultural heritage, and what libraries can do to address key challenges and opportunities.
Read on for reflections from our Art Libraries and Preservation and Conservation Sections on what the Trend Report means for them. They explore heritage’s role in peacebuilding and in bringing people together in dialogue to imagine a shared future.
From the Policy and Advocacy side, get caught up on how libraries are supporting media and information literacy and intellectual freedom, and responding to threats to public lending.
Learn more about our community’s regional engagement and, as always, keep up to date on calls, events, and upcoming opportunities.
