The IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section is honoured to have participated with a keynote presentation at the opening of the 4th Global Conference on Parliamentary Studies, in Athens, Greece, on the 13th June 2025. IFLAPARL was invited by the event’s organizers to present its work, the tools and the resources it provides for the professionals of the parliamentary library and research services field.

The scientific conference, titled “Reinventing Democracy for the 21st Century”, was organized by the Hellenic OCR Team and Széchenyi István University, featuring 70 scientific presentations in 17 sessions that covered a wide range of topics related to the evolution of democracy and parliamentarism in the digital age.

The Conference focused on:

  • The digital transition of parliaments and the challenges of electronic governance and transparency
  • Artificial Intelligence in the legislative process and safeguarding democratic values
  • Disinformation and the role of social media in shaping contemporary political reality
  • Geopolitical shifts and their impact on parliamentary diplomacy

The IFLAPARL keynote: “IFLAPARL: Networking for stronger and better-informed democracies”  included a short presentation of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, a presentation of IFLAPARL’s projects and activities, and it highlighted the importance of networking for reliable information and conducting evidence-based political discussions.
