Join colleagues taking part in IFLA’s pre-nominations phase
01 November 2024
Keen to join an IFLA committee but you can’t find someone to nominate you? Join the many colleagues around the world seizing the opportunity of our pre-nominations phase.
Less than three weeks ago, IFLA launched its Pre-Nominations phase, a new first step in our nominations and elections process.
This innovation is designed to provide an option for great candidates for one of our many volunteer roles to put their names forwards and find nominators. Through it, we want to ensure that anyone who has something to contribute to international librarianship can find their place in one of our structures.
At this stage, IFLA is collecting nominee forms of those that wish to be nominated as a member to:
- Professional Section Standing Committees
- Regional Division Committees
- Advisory Committees
- Review Groups
The process is already proving successful, with nominees coming from over 46 countries so far, and around 2/3 coming from outside Europe and North America. In more detail:
- 31% of the individuals are residents in Sub-Saharan Africa,
- 19% in Asia & Oceania,
- 17% in Europe,
- 16% in North America,
- 13% in Middle East and North Africa
- 4% in the Latin America and the Caribbean
There is also a broad spread, with candidates for 31 of the 53 of the units mentioned above so far.
When formal nominations open in January 2025, those with the right to nominate will be able not just to identify their own candidates, but also pick from the list of those who participated in the pre-nomination phase.
You still have a few weeks to go to indicate your interest, so don’t miss out!
We welcome you to submit an expression of interest via our online platform, hosted by our election company Mi-Voice:
Deadline: 29 November 2024.
