IFLA’s New Professionals Special Interest Group (NPSIG) is an open global network for new library and information professionals, paraprofessionals, LIS students and supporters.

In August, NPSIG celebrated its 20th birthday. Founded in 2004 by Loida Garcia-Febo (USA/PR), Andrew Cranfield (DK), and Stuart Hamilton (UK), we have been sponsored by and affiliated with the Management of Library Associations Section (MLAS). NPSIG regularly collaborates with MLAS and many other IFLA committees on virtual and in person events, covering important topics related to libraries with participants and speakers from around the world.

The NPSIG leadership team, together with a global network of enthusiasts, drive the activities of NPSIG as volunteers. The group welcomes new members and supporters who are encouraged to join the informal network and to contribute to the group’s online and on-site activities. Anyone in the library world is invited to participate.

Networking can be challenging, especially for those just getting started in the field. NPSIG aims to make it a little bit easier and, in the process, foster local and global collaboration and community. Our well-known and well-attended IFLACamp is held in the days before WLIC. Do join us if you’re interested in meeting new colleagues before WLIC, in a fun and relaxed environment.

There is much to do and say about how our work impacts our profession. So, why don’t you join us and see how NPSIG can help you meet new colleagues and develop your capacity. We want to see our new professionals succeed, so here we are – to do it together!
