New Research to Accelerate Library Climate Advocacy
06 May 2025
As momentum towards the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) is building, IFLA is excited to launch new, first-of-its-kind research to expand understanding of how libraries are contributing to climate empowerment.

With the first UNFCCC Climate Week 2025 (to be hosted by Panama from 19-23 May), and the June Climate Meetings coming up, this is a perfect opportunity to raise our voices on the great potential for libraries to help all members of society get involved in climate action.
New Publications
Building on our global climate survey, which collected input from nearly 600 library associations and individual institutions, this new publication offers a look at the scope of library involvement in climate education and communication.

Beyond this, it provides good practice examples, input from libraries around the world, in-depth case studies on libraries in select countries, and recommendations on how to grow library involvement in climate empowerment. As a companion to the report, IFLA has produced a short overview of key findings and recommendations. Libraries and associations are encouraged to have a look, share within your networks, and use as a tool to support your own advocacy.
