Libraries and Children’s Right to Privacy: IFLA Submits Comments to OHCHR Call for Inputs

    Libraries have a traditional and longstanding commitment to defending the privacy of their users. As institutions that come into contact with children and teens’ data in the course of their everyday work, libraries have developed good practices on how to keep this data private and confidential – and to help their young audiences develop the skills to stay safe and maintain their privacy online.

      In light with the growing global concern related to the spread of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), as a precautionary measure, the Steering Committee of the Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference (EALC) has decided to reschedule the annual conference from June 16-19, 2020 to September 30 - October 2, 2020. The conference will take place online.

        Users’ Rights Cannot be Collateral Damage: IFLA Submits Comments on European Commission Guidance on Upload Filter Provisions of Copyright Directive

          IFLA has submitted a response to a consultation by the European Commission on guidance to Member States on how to implement the controversial new provisions on internet platforms introduced by the 2019 Copyright Directive. In the face of efforts by rightholder organisations to wish away the protections offered for user rights – including the enjoyment of exceptions and limitations to copyright – IFLA has joined other groups working to safeguard these guarantees as part of a balanced overall regime.
