    Extended collective licensing (ECL) is promoted by some as a solution for libraries looking to obtain rights for use large quantities of books or other materials. But does it deliver? A new IFLA background report explores the characteristics of effective schemes, and suggests some lessons for others considering its introduction.

    Results of the Survey of Digital Legal Deposit Policies and Practices at National Libraries

      In 2014 seventeen National Libraries were surveyed about their born digital news content, legal deposit policies and practices. The results of the survey were presented at the 2015 International News Media Conference hosted by the National Library of Sweden in Stockholm, Sweden. Three years later, the authors expanded their team and the focus of the survey from news to all types of digital content.

          The Blue Shield aims to be the cultural equivalent of the Red Cross. It takes a cross-sectoral approach to its work, including libraries, museums, monuments and sites, and archives. It works for the protection of the world’s cultural heritage by coordinating preparations to meet and respond to emergency situations as well as providing post-crisis support.
