IFLAPARL Call for Presentations, WLIC 2018, Kuala Lumpur The Section on Library and Research Services for Parliaments (IFLAPARL) has issued a call for presentations for its open session at WLIC 2018. This interactive knowledge sharing session will focus on the theme "Transforming Library & Research Services for Parliamentary Impact".
2018 has been declared the European Year of Cultural Heritage. While libraries are active in preserving our heritage every day of every year, this is a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the unique contribution our institutions are making. This brief offers some ideas of how to get involved.
We invite anyone with an interest or experience related to this theme to submit abstracts, and later full papers, particularly those which provide transferable examples of current practice, or which outline the developments needed to build skills, partnerships and resilience.
Libraries guarantees people access to knowledge through literacy, innovation and creativity. Through the work of libraries, users young and old are empowered to discover, better their lives and stay safe online. To identify and develop standards, guidelines and best practices for the collection and preservation of content in its diverse form (as stated in the IFLA Key Initiative 3.2.1), it was decided to conduct an extensive survey in the library sector to establish currently used standards, guidelines and best practices for material in any format.
Faced with growing concerns over fake news, the European Union launched a consultation on fake news, and how to fight it in November 2017. IFLA has responded, underlining that the only sustainable response is a literate, critical population. Libraries are essential in delivering this, and should be supported to do so.
