Bringing Internet Access to All Libraries: Progress and Plans

    When the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) set out principles for how the Internet should be run in 2003, the governments present fixed the target of connecting public libraries. When these targets were updated in 2010, governments underlined – all libraries should be connected to the Internet, in order to support a Web that works for all. IFLA's contribution to WSIS annual reporting reflects on progress made in 2017, and to be made in 2018.

      Everyone Has a Right to Access to Information: IFLA Presents Research on Libraries' Actions for Accessibility at the UN

        Providing access to information, and in particular libraries, is key to making for inclusive and sustainable development, IFLA therefore surveyed its members to establish whether libraries had policies – or programmes – in place. The results were presented in New York, at a meeting on 13-15 November by Nancy Bolt, a member of the Section on Library Services to People with Special Needs.

          Copyright reform in Colombia: IFLA sends an open letter to the Colombian Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism

            IFLA welcomes all steps towards making legislative changes that adapt current copyright frameworks to the digital age. Colombia is now in the process of reforming its copyright law (Ley 23 de 1982). In light of this, IFLA’s president Glòria Pérez-Salmerón has sent an open letter to the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

              IFLA, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, invites bids from IFLA Members to host the 16th IFLA Interlending and Document Supply (ILDS) Conference to be held in September or October 2019. This conference typically runs 2 to 3 days in length, attracts between 150 and 250 delegates, and operates with a budget of approximately EUR 50,000 - 100,000.
