IFLA has provided comments to the European Parliament on a planned report on the restitution of cultural heritage looted or stolen in disasters or wars. It underlines the need to ensure support for efforts to understand better how rare books and documents circulate, and to identify them so that they can be returned.
The UNESCO PERSIST Project launched Guidelines for the selection of digital heritage for long-term preservation in 2016. We are glad to announce that a Spanish translation is now available, bringing the total number of languages available to six.
For around half of the world’s population, Internet connectivity is not a reality. Often, this is simply because there are no cables, or a good enough mobile signal, where they live. Cut off from information about jobs, education or healthcare, the lack of access risks compounding their marginalisation. A conference in Tempe, United States, looked at how library initiatives to provide 'offline Internet' can better help people bridge the information divide.
Last week, the Council of Ministers of the European Union, representing its Member States, voted to approve the ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty. This opens the way to the EU and its 28 Member States formally joining the Treaty in the summer, opening up many new possibilities for access to, and exchange of, books in accessible formats for people with print disabilities.

For the purpose of writing new guidelines a survey is beeing conducted in order to gather examples of modern day practice in the organization of library programmes and services that meet needs of people who are deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind. The survey is conducted internationally from February 10th to March 31st 2018 - EXTENDED DEADLINE UNTIL APRIL 30TH 2018.

This interactive knowledge sharing session will focus on the theme "Transforming Library & Research Services for Parliamentary Impact".
