Net Neutrality is the term used to describe the principle by which all traffic over internet connections – films, music, documents – is treated in a non-discriminatory way. When it is compromised, users' choices are influenced or restricted. Day by day issues of privacy and the internet are becoming more pressing for librarians as digital services in libraries continue to grow. The FAIFE open session at WLIC 2016, on Tueday 16 August at 9:30am, gives you a chance to hear more about what is going on, and what you can do about it.
This session will give an overview of IFLA's advocacy for public access to the Internet in regional and global Internet Governance Forums, and an introduction to the Global Connect Initiative, a programme launched by the U.S. State Department in September 2015 with the purpose of bringing 1.5 billion people online by 2020.
