A key goal of IFLA's engagement with international organisations, not least the United Nations, is to create opportnities for our members to form partnerships that bring benefits to them and their communities. We're therefore happy to share this interview with Raymond Chepkwony of the Kenya National Library Service, who tells as about his experience of working with the UN country team in Kenya.
We are happy to presents a summary of the results of our survey into the proposed changed pathways for the development of our next Strategy (2024-2029). This offers useful pointers on where we should focus most of our efforts, as well as lots of rich material for subsequent planning of actions. Crucially, it also gives us a benchmark that we can use when trying to evaluate whether future drafts of the Strategy are doing what the field wants and needs.
The IFLA Indigenous Matters Section, together with the FAIFE and CLM Advisory Committees, seeks abstracts for a hybrid symposium on theme of “Stewarding Indigenous Knowledge through Ethics, Law, and the Archive”.
Advocating for school libraries not for the school library itself, but for quality education, is important both in countries where the school library does not have a legal framework and status, and in countries where the school library exists, but staff and funding are cut to “save money”. A very important and impactful advocacy tool could be the IFLA School Library Manifesto, released by IFLA and IASL in September 2021.

Sponsored by the IFLA Library Services to Multicultural Populations Section, the MCULTP Mini-Conference 2024 will explore how libraries and librarians support Multiculturalism and Multilingualism in their communities. This mini-conference intends to gather academic, public, and special librarians, as well as LIS professionals via a free online Zoom event.
The “Hangzhou Feel” Exhibition, a collaborative project between Hangzhou Public Library and its international sister library, Milan Public Library, was successfully held in Milan, Italy, from September 16 to November 30,2023. Beyond strengthening the connection between libraries, the exhibition also aimed to foster mutual respect and understanding between Eastern and Western cultures, contributing to the advancement of the creative and cultural industries in both cities.
To help students develop a love for reading, Project SIDLAK also aims to upscale the school library with more varied reading and learning resources, making it more functional and inviting to the students. Read more
As part of a community outreach drive, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) libraries have decided to extend its services to the libraries across the Ampara district by establishing a Library & Information Network under the umbrella of SEUSL libraries. This library and information network has been named “South Eastern Regional Library & Information Network (SERLIN), Sri Lanka”. Read more

By actively engaging with its diverse community, the library became a trusted partner in intellectual and cultural enrichment, ensuring it transcends its physical space to evolve into an essential, vibrant component of our patrons’ everyday experiences.
Strategies to improve collection practices and foster engagement with communities were the primary discussion topics at the 29th Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO), hosted by Qatar National Library (QNL). Read more
The Indigenous Referencing Guidance for Indigenous Knowledges was launched on 24th May 2023 to CAVAL’s members and the wider library and information community. The document consists of two parts, an Indigenous Knowledges Attribution Toolkit (IKAT) and a Citation Style Guide – the combined document commonly referred to as ‘the Toolkit’.
The stakeholders of KBSB have shown the effectiveness of an urban garden in bringing people together. They have organised programmes throughout the year and each event is closely linked to gardening and the products that can be harvested from the garden. Several stakeholders have become successful entrepreneurs through the sale of products from their plots at KBSB. Read more
Public Libraries Victoria (PLV) Sustainability Portal features an explanation of the SDGs with reference to public libraries, an interactive map that pinpoints key sustainable initiatives and a bank of case studies to inspire new sustainable programs and partnerships. Read more
