I am happy to be writing to you to with the latest update on all that is happening at IFLA, and specifically the work of our Governing Board. I would like to acknowledge the positive feedback on these monthly messages from many of our members and volunteers. Thank you for your comments. We are continuing to issue these updates in all IFLA languages, which I hope assists in updating you on key matters.
The latest IFLA Library Services to Multicultural Populations Section’s June 2024 newsletter has been published.
The IFLA Information Technology and Preservation and Conservation sections, along with the Artificial Intelligence SIG, organized a webinar on the intersection of artificial intelligence and heritage and culture preservation in the context of libraries. The event is a milestone on the challenging exploration of that topic.
IFLA’s members have given overwhelming support for the necessary changes to the Federation’s Statutes to allow us to apply for charity status, as well as approving the annual accounts for 2023. With this, IFLA is one step further forwards in its work towards a sustainable future.

A dynamic Professional Unit has the greatest impact on IFLA’s global work – engaging members, developing strong leadership and identity, delivering high-quality services with measurable impact, and communicating activities within IFLA and beyond. The Professional Council launched the Dynamic Unit and Impact Awards to recognise the Professional Units who have excelled in putting Dynamic Unit goals into practice. Three IFLA Professional Units were awarded this year.

This webinar held across multiple time zones seeks to provide a snapshot of IT challenges and opportunities in libraries and provide regional perspectives on issues.

IFLA's New Professionals Special Interest Group (NPSIG) is accepting proposals for IFLACamp which is going to be held online this year, in August. IFLACamp is all about connecting new professionals and creating an environment where we can share new ideas with one another. This year, we are accepting submissions for presentations.
Earlier this year, a call for volunteers went out to the IFLA membership to serve on the Code of Conduct for Volunteers Working Group.
Last week the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event took place in Geneva from the 27 to the 31 of May. This event marked a significant milestone of twenty years of progress made in the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society, which took place in two phases — Geneva in 2003 and Tunis in 2005. Twenty years ago WSIS was the space that set an initial framework for global digital cooperation with a vision to build people-centric, inclusive, and development-oriented information and knowledge societies. Just as in the the past, IFLA attended this event to continue its ongoing involvement in this process since its foundation at the 2003 Geneva Summit; and engaged in diverse multistakeholder discussions to highlight the crucial role that libraries play as key actors of the information society.
