Following a call for applications in April 2023, the Governing Board has appointed Martyn Wade to the position of IFLA Parliamentarian. The appointment was made after a thorough review process of applicants.

Copyright rules have a key impact on the work of libraries, shaping how we acquire, manage, and enable people to use knowledge. It is also an evolving issue, with new laws and regulation always under discussion, in response to technological, political and economic change.
Thanks to the input of our members and volunteers, IFLA’s Governing Board took a first key step towards our new Strategy at its last meeting, leading to a set of 10 suggested change pathways. We are now seeking your input on these – the priorities that will guide the preparation of our Strategy 2024-2029.
These open stakeholder consultations composed by multilateral agencies, civil society, technical communities, private sector and national governments will help clarify the extent to which the vision of a people centered, inclusive information society has evolved during the past twenty years. The review is also a key opportunity for people in the library field to contribute to the modernization of the operational architecture for the WSIS process and more importantly, to put it at the service and improvement of our lives and for future generations.
The IFLA Document Delivery and Resource Sharing Section Standing Committee (DDRS) shares an open-access publication, "Document Delivery and Resource Sharing: Global Perspectives." This comprehensive guide covers various aspects of operational resource sharing, including background, systems overview, copyright, technology, content management, and operations.
Alongside partners in the heritage, research and education space, IFLA has issued a letter to the South African Parliament committee responsible for the progress of the country's Copyright Amendment Bill, calling for rapid passage into law of this long-overdue piece of legislation.

In 2023, digital policy developments gained significant momentum. The development of AI and many other emerging technologies gave place to the acceleration of regulation in different areas that concern the library and information field. Because of this, we believe that 2024 will be a pivotal year for advocating in this area and making sure that the global voice of libraries remains strong.
