Innovating and enterprising for libraries in development initiatives: interview with Merve Yavuzdemir

    At the heart of the work of IFLA and the library field as a whole around the SDGs is the fact that libraries are partners for development, across the policy agenda. As a result, it makes sense that libraries should also be involved in wider initiatives that look to deliver on development goals, at the national and international levels. We interviewed Merve Yavuzdemir from Turkey, who is running library projects with the United Nations Development Programme, to find out more, and to underline the possibilities for libraries everywhere to be proactive in taking a place at the table!

    Libraries driving lifelong learning: an interview with the Global Learning Festival team

      Supporting learning is at the heart of the mission of libraries, and indeed in many cases is why they were built in the first place. However, this role isn't always as celebrated as much as it should be. However, there are great examples of our institutions taking the lead, as our interview with some of the team behind the Global Learning Festival shows. We talked to Lara Pugh, Project Leader Learning City, Wollongong City Libraries and Global Learning Festival Working Group member, and Diane Tabbagh, Coordinator Learning Community, Wyndham City Council and Global Learning Festival Working Group Chair.

          An alliance for libraries, books and reading in Latin America and the Caribbean: memorandum of understanding signed with CERLALC

            On the occasion of the mid-term meeting of IFLA’s Regional Division Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean, a memorandum of understanding was signed between IFLA and CERLALC, the Centre for the Promotion of Books and Reading in Latin America and the Caribbean. This provides a framework for deeper cooperation between our organisation, in support of shared goals.

            Evidence for all in times of health emergency: IFLA supports Cochrane Call for Action

              The COVID-19 pandemic underlined the importance of timely and comprehensive health information, but also the difficulties faced by many in accessing it. Action is needed to ensure that everyone benefits from the infrastructure needed to achieve this. This goal lies at the heart of the Cochrane Call to Action on supporting evidence responses to global health emergencies.
