SET were honoured and celebrated at this year’s 2022 WLIC which was held in Dublin.
IFLA is excited to bring the perspective of libraries to the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT 2022 with an official side event.
This edition highlights just a few of the different ways in which IFLA is enabling this learning. A great example is our Library Map of the World, which is celebrating its 5th anniversary today. The map not only enables new insights into our field but has been an important learning process for the many contributors involved.
“Making the future yourself!” was the motto of this year’s Sustainability Days, organised by “SUSTAIN IT!” – the initiative for sustainability and climate protection.
Librarians and archivists bring a unique set of skills and values which have a major positive impact on the organisations in which they work. However, we need to mobilise to ensure that those taking decisions understand this, as has been the case recently in Australia.
With more than 50 enthusiastic and highly committed participants, the workshop was a complete success.
The IFLA Local History and Genealogy Section held a workshop on 16 August 2022 on highlighting experiences with integrating local history and genealogy materials with K-12 students.

During the Opening Ceremony of the World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) 2022, Mary Robinson, Former President of Ireland, Chair of The Elders and Adjunct Professor of Climate Justice, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, delivered a stirring keynote address on the Challenge of the Climate Crisis.

Under the motto “Inspired and Engaged on Sustainability” the IFLA Environment, Sustainability and Libraries Section (ENSULIB) with the Management and Marketing Section (M&M) and the Preservation and Conservation Section (P&C) held a Satellite meeting from 22–23 July 2022.
The IFLA Rare Books and Special Collections Section (RBSC) would like to investigate what standards, norms, practices, laws, Return On Investment (ROI) studies, and research exist around the world to measure the different values of Special Collections, and identify the gaps where such information does not exist, with a view to draft and publish a report that can be a guide to cultural heritage institutions to formulate the questions to ask if they want to measure the value of their Special Collections as a tool for advocacy.
A dynamic Professional Unit has the greatest impact on IFLA’s global work – engaging members, developing strong leadership and identity, delivering high-quality services with a measurable impact, and communicating activities within IFLA and beyond. The Professional Committee launched the Dynamic Unit and Impact Award (DUIA) in 2018 to recognise the Professional Units who have excelled in putting Dynamic Unit expectations into practice.
Both Boards recognise the importance of the relationship and have discussed how they will continue to work collaboratively in the future and effectively to achieve their shared outcomes.
