QNL Celebrates Qatar’s Contribution to the IFLA Library Map of the World

Qatar National Library (QNL) organised and hosted a workshop at its premises, celebrating Qatar’s successful contribution to the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Library Map of the World, with discussions centred on measuring and demonstrating the impact of library services.

Titled “Measuring, Evaluating, and Demonstrating Library Service Impact,” the workshop provided an interactive platform to explore the use of logic models in service design with a focus on aligning library efforts with community needs and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through group exercises and success stories featured on the IFLA platform, participants examined best practices in performance measurement, data collection, and outcome-based reporting.

The session, held at QNL, was led by Dr. Waleed Al Badi, Director of Majlis Oman Library and an accredited IFLA trainer. His training materials were designed to provide practical support for libraries, introducing participants to the latest global trends in evaluating service impact.

More than 60 representatives from across Qatar’s library sector attended, including professionals from school libraries, medical and health institutions, government, public and academic libraries, as well as specialised and private institutions. This diverse participation reflected the richness of Qatar’s library landscape and provided a valuable opportunity for professional networking, knowledge exchange, and collaboration.

QNL has played a significant role in updating Qatari Libraries’ data for IFLA’s Library Map of the World, a global initiative that visualises the presence and impact of libraries around the world. The event celebrated the institutions and libraries that contributed to the data collection effort. As the IFLA MENA Regional Office, QNL recognised their efforts by distributing trophies and certificates of appreciation.

Since September 2024, QNL has led a nationwide data collection campaign involving 392 libraries across academic, government, and private sectors, achieving an impressive 80.7% response rate. The workshop reaffirmed QNL’s strategic role in promoting knowledge-sharing and contributing to the ongoing development of library services.

Dr. Eiman Saleh Alshamari, Manager of the IFLA Middle East and North Africa Regional Office, stated that QNL’s commitment highlights the transformative role libraries play in achieving both national and global development goals. “By showcasing our collective efforts through global platforms like the Library Map of the World, we amplify the voice of libraries as agents of progress and community empowerment.”

Wadha M. Al-Jahman, Senior Information Services Librarian at QNL, emphasised that the event demonstrated how data and evaluation tools can help libraries communicate their value to policymakers. “Libraries are engines of change. By articulating our impact, we inspire action within our communities.”

نظّمت مكتبة قطر الوطنية ورشة تدريبية تحتفي بالإسهام القطري المتميز في مبادرة “خريطة مكتبات العالم”، إحدى مبادرات الاتحاد الدولي لجمعيات ومؤسسات المكتبات (الإفلا)، وتضمنت نقاشًا حول قياس تأثير خدمات المكتبات وتسليط الضوء عليها.

تحت عنوان “تقييم خدمات المكتبات وإبراز تأثيرها”، أتاحت الورشة التفاعلية تبادل الأفكار والخبرات حول استكشاف سبل توظيف “النماذج المنطقية” في تصميم الخدمات، مع التركيز على مواءمة جهود المكتبات مع احتياجات المجتمع وأهداف الأمم المتحدة للتنمية المستدامة. ومن خلال الأنشطة الجماعية وقصص النجاح الملهمة المعروضة على منصة “الإفلا”، استعرض المشاركون أفضل الممارسات في قياس الأداء وجمع البيانات وإعداد التقارير حول النتائج.

أدار الجلسة، التي أقيمت في مقر مكتبة قطر الوطنية، الدكتور وليد البادي، مدير مكتبة مجلس عُمان، وهو مدرب معتمد من الاتحاد الدولي لجمعيات ومؤسسات المكتبات (الإفلا)، وقد صمّم مواده التدريبية لتقديم الدعم العملي للمكتبات، وتعريف المشاركين بأحدث التوجهات العالمية في تقييم تأثير الخدمات.

وقد حضر الورشة أكثر من 60 ممثلًا من مختلف مؤسسات قطاع المكتبات في قطر، من بينهم متخصصون من المكتبات المدرسية والمؤسسات الطبية والصحية والمكتبات الحكومية والعامة والأكاديمية، بالإضافة إلى المؤسسات المتخصصة والخاصة. وجسدت هذه المشاركة المتنوعة ثراء المشهد المكتبي في دولة قطر، وأتاحت فرصة قيمة للتواصل المهني وتبادل المعارف والخبرات والتعاون المشترك.

وقد أدت مكتبة قطر الوطنية دورًا محوريًا في تحديث بيانات المكتبات القطرية في خريطة “الإفلا” لمكتبات العالم، وهي مبادرة دولية تهدف إلى إبراز حضور المكتبات وتأثيرها في جميع أنحاء العالم من خلال رسوم بيانية ومؤشرات بصرية. تهدف هذه الجلسة إلى تكريم المؤسسات والمكتبات التي أسهمت في جمع البيانات والاحتفاء بها. وبصفتها المكتب الإقليمي لاتحاد الإفلا في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، كرّمت مكتبة قطر الوطنية جهود هذه المؤسسات والمكتبات بتوزيع الدروع التذكارية وشهادات التقدير.

وجدير بالذكر أن مكتبة قطر الوطنية قادت منذ سبتمبر 2024 حملة وطنية لجمع البيانات شملت 392 مكتبة في القطاعات الأكاديمية والحكومية والخاصة، وحققت معدلًا بارزًا في الاستجابة بلغ 80,7%. وقد أكدت هذه الورشة مُجدّدًا على الدور الاستراتيجي والحيوي الذي تنهض به مكتبة قطر الوطنية في تعزيز تبادل المعرفة والإسهام في التطوير المستمر لخدمات المكتبات.

وفي هذا السياق، أكدت الدكتورة إيمان صالح الشمري، مدير المكتب الإقليمي لاتحاد الإفلا في الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا أن التزام مكتبة قطر الوطنية يُبرز الدور الجوهري والعميق للمكتبات في تحقيق أهداف التنمية على المستويين الوطني والعالمي وقالت: “من خلال استعراض جهودنا الجماعية عبر منصات عالمية مثل خريطة مكتبات العالم، فإننا ندعم صوت المكتبات ونعلي ونعزز مكانتها بصفتها قاطرة للتقدم وتمكين المجتمعات”.

أما وضحى الجهمان، أخصائي معلومات أول في مكتبة قطر الوطنية، فقد أشارت إلى أن الفعالية سلطت الضوء على سُبُل توظيف أدوات البيانات والتقييم لمساعدة المكتبات في التعبير عن قيمتها وإبراز أهميتها ودورها لصانعي السياسات، وأضافت: “المكتبات قوة دافعة للتغيير، وإبراز أثرها بوضوح يُحفّز المجتمع على العمل والتفاعل”.
