Keen to get an update on what’s going on at IFLA in 2025? A recording of our January Townhall meetings for members and volunteers is now available.

The latest round of Townhall meetings took place over 20-23 January, with timings designed to match different timezones, as well as automated translation into all IFLA languages. IFLA’s members and volunteers all received invitations to join live.

As with previous editions, they offered an opportunity to highlight the issues on the top of the agenda for IFLA’s Governing Board and Headquarters, and to answer questions from participants.

In particular, IFLA President Vicki McDonald and Secretary General Sharon Memis explored:

  • Our nominations and elections process, which is currently underway. This is an important moment in the life of our Federation, leading to a new Governing Board taking office in August, but also a great opportunity to give yourself – or a colleague – the chance to experience international librarianship;
  • Progress on the 2025 World Library and Information Congress. This will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, with intensive work taking place. The call for sessions is already open, and further information for participants is being added regularly to the website;
  • The Governing Board’s wider agenda for 2025, including the launch of a governance healthcheck, the implementation of our code of conduct for volunteers and WLIC review, and further progress on sustainability.
  • Upcoming research publications designed to provide useful tools for IFLA members in their work to build their own sustainabililty

You can access the recording of the event on IFLA’s YouTube channel. This also includes references to documents discussed.

We will contact members and volunteers when the dates of the next IFLA townhalls – likely to be around May – are known.
