The event will delve into the 2024 updated IFLA Trend Report, a document that highlights essential topics concerning AI and the prospective roles of libraries and librarians. The M&M Standing Committee (SC) is placing a spotlight on these pivotal themes, offering three compelling presentations by esteemed professionals.

Speaker Lineup:

Stephen Wyber, External Affairs Director at IFLA, will kick off the session with insights from “The Updated IFLA Trend Report.” Attendees can explore the report in detail here: IFLA Trend Report. Wyber will provide a comprehensive overview, addressing the future directions for libraries globally.

Dr. Mashilo Modiba, a Senior Lecturer at the University of South Africa in the Department of Information Science, will present “Artificial Intelligence Driven Smart Libraries: The Role of Cybrarianship in Society 5.0.” His talk will cover current AI trends, associated benefits, challenges, and provide recommendations for libraries adapting to these rapid changes.

PhD. Christie Koontz, a mentor for the M&M section – Florida State University, will discuss “Data-Driven Library Marketing & a Role for ChatGPT AI.” Koontz will explore how modern technologies, including AI, can revolutionize marketing strategies within the library sector.

The session will be moderated by M&M SC member Romeo Matumba, ensuring a seamless flow and facilitating a dynamic Questions & Discussion segment, allowing participants to engage directly with the speakers.
