The UBC Working Group is pleased to announce that the revised draft of the IFLA Professional Statement on Universal Bibliographic Control (UBC) has been finalized for public consultation.

This important resource has been maintained by the IFLA Bibliography Section since 2012. The Section took the lead in coordinating its revision and established the UBC Working Group for this purpose in the Fall of 2023. The revised version has been developed under the sponsorship of the IFLA Bibliography, Cataloguing, and Subject Analysis and Access Sections, together with the IFLA Advisory Committee on Standards and in consultation with the IFLA National Libraries Section.

We are now launching a worldwide review to gather feedback from all interested communities and individuals.

You can access the revised draft version of the IFLA Professional Statement on Universal Bibliographic Control on this page. In order to fully understand the purpose and scope of the revision, respondents are invited to read the Elaboration of Intent issued.

We particularly welcome feedback on the following aspects:

  • Do you think the language of the document is easy to understand from a non-native English speaker point of view?
  • Do you think the structure of the document is clear and consistent?
  • Do you think the purpose of the document is clearly stated?
  • Did you find the statement of intent helpful in your assessment of the document?
  • Once it is endorsed, how would you like IFLA to communicate on the document in the future?
