IFLA Metropolitan Libraries Short Film Award

This award was part of “A Corto di libri”, a contest for short films about libraries and librarians, organized by Associazione Italiana Biblioteche (AIB). The year 2024 was the last edition, and is currently discontinued. The contest had three Sections (Fiction, Documentary and Advertising). The IFLA Metropolitan Libraries Short Film Award was given to the best short film about public libraries in large cities and metropolitan areas, among all the submitted films. Everyone, as an individual or an institution, was eligible to apply.
The last IFLA Metropolitan Libraries Short Film Award 2024 was presented on 8 October in Barcelona during the conference Culture, Knowledge and Community. The winning film, Three Families/Three Libraries (Jerusalem), produced by Nun Films with the Khalidi Library Jerusalem and ALIPH, portrayed the joint efforts of three manuscript libraries to preserve Islamic and Arab cultural heritage. The jury — Pablo Bruno D’Amico, John Spears, and Siobhan Reardon — highlighted its creativity, technical quality, and advocacy impact. Organized by AIB and IFLA MetLib, the contest awarded €1,000 to support participation in the IFLA WLIC or filmmaking equipment.
