Expressions of Interest from potential host countries for the IFLA World Library and Information Congress 2028

The IFLA Governing Board invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) from its member national associations, or other member representative bodies, to host the 2028 IFLA World Library and Information Congress: 92nd IFLA General Conference and Assembly (WLIC).

The IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) takes place during August each year in a city selected through a competitive process. With new models arising from the 2024 WLIC Review, WLIC 2028 will feature a model with a three (3) day intensive exploration of highly topical issues and key trends of interest to the field.

A National Committee of the local library and information services sector is the host organisation working with IFLA to hold the Congress. The Congress and host city are promoted internationally and online, significantly raising awareness around the world of the local profession, city and region.

A full timeline for the bidding process is in the application document.

The Congress for 2028 will be organised over a one-year period with intensive activity beginning in September 2027.

All member national associations have been contacted directly. If you are in need of clarification regarding the EOI process, please contact [email protected].

Deadline for Expressions of Interest: 12 March 2026.
